An early week storm brought enough much-needed rain to cause
the La Ribera arroyo to run out to sea. It shut down fishing
for a couple of days, but since then the debris washed out
has made for some spectacular dorado action. Midsummer weather

very calm seas with light afternoon SE breezes. Again this
week green water outside has kept the bite close in this week,
with most fish taken within 5 miles of shore. The billfish

in increasing numbers from La Ribera to Cabo Pulmo within
2 miles of shore. Sailfish to 110lbs have moved in with the
warming water and were found with the stripers this week.
Most fish were taken on live bait, but several were caught
by flyfishermen on artificials. Dorado action remains constant
around the bouys and open water, with fish to 45lbs taking
some lures, but chumming with sardines working the best. Wahoo
to 36lbs were landed this week while trolling mackerel patterned
lures and rapalas between Cabo Pulmo and Los Frailes. Yellowtail,

boats picking up 1 or 2 fish averaging 15lbs, mostly near
floating debris, taking all colored lures, live sardines and

the best results on chrome lures and live sardines and mullet.

Perfect weather the first half of the week, with windy conditions
hampering fishing over the weekend. Daytime highs from 85
to 90 and morning lows about 65. Water temp 70 to 72 deg.
The bite was a bit slow this week, mostly due to the still-cooler
than normal water temp, and an incredible amount of squid
in the water. Striped marlin to 130 lbs have moved south,
and were found from Cabo Pulmo to Gordo Banks between 10 to
20 miles offshore, taking live bait and squid pattern lures.
The yellowfin tuna bite was off, with football sized fish

Live bait and pink, yellow/orange patterned trolling lures
worked best this week. Yellowfin tuna to 30lbs were located
with porpoise 10 to 15 miles off Cabo Pulmo and provided easy
limits for several of our anglers this week, with cedar plugs,
live bait & hoochies the best bet. Dorado to 35lbs were
found in open water and around the buoys off La Ribera, although
the dorado bite was a bit off this week - live bait, squid
& all colored lures all produced fish this week. Several
sailfish to 120lbs were caught and released indicating warmer
water is on the way.
Linda and Dennis Kubezak of Ogdensburg, WI, while fishing
1 day on a Leonero cruiser, took a 102lb swordfish and a 30lb

were taken in open water while trolling. Action remains a
bit slow, but warming water should improve the bite soon -
bright colored lures, live bait & hoochies all produced
fish this week. Wahoo action has been moderate, however several
nice fish shredded trolled lures, with orange/purple marauders
and all colored marlin lures getting bit.
Three generations of the Bellissimo family, Tom Sr., Tom
