Nice weather, with daytime highs in the 90's, cool water early in the week, warming back to 88deg at week's end, with clear, flat, blue seas in the mornings and afternoon breezes. Pleasant weather for August, with daytime highs in the mid 90's, nice evenings and mornings, water about 78deg inside, 81deg outside, with clear, calm seas in the mornings with afternoon breezes. The water continues to warm, with more typical temps for this time of year. The striped marlin bite is declining, while sailfish and blue marlin catches are increasing. The dorado counts are up, but the tuna bite is slower. Lots of pargo, amberjack and giant squid complete this week's catch.

Dorado - biting both inshore and outside with big bulls on marlin lures. Smaller fish in schools closer to shore. Our best week this year, with squid colored lures and live sardinas working best.

Blue Marlin - improving throughout the week, with dark & squid colored lures producing most of the hookups. We're anticipating some big fish for the East Cape Bisbee Tournament Aug 7-9.

Pargo/Amberjack - limits of pargo for inshore anglers - very unusual for this time of year! Amberjack to 60lbs also very active, with all strikes on squid.

Fish Count - 65 boat departures - 104 dorado, 91 pargo, 27 amberjack, 13 cabrilla, 67 yellowfin tuna, 4 wahoo, and released 25 striped marlin, 11 blue marlin, 23 sailfish.

Finally the yellowfin bite has opened up, with the fishing improving daily as quality fish to 150lbs are hitting the dock. A good dorado week with some big bulls. Weekly Fish Report for week ending: July 20, 2002

Typical July weather this week, with daytime highs in the low 90's, pleasant evenings and mornings, warming water around 80deg, with calm seas most of the week. Early week was off, but by the weekend, all boats were reporting great success, with blue marlin, striped marlin, sailfish, dorado, tuna and roosterfish all biting, with the resurgence of wahoo of particular note. Again this week most of the action was on lures, as sardinas were still scarce.

Dorado - Lots of blind strikes on bright colored lures, with fish to 45lbs spread throughout the bay, from Pescadero to Cabo Pulmo, 3 - 10 miles out. Live bait and strip bait also producing good results.

Billfish - the marlin bite continues, with blue marlin to 200lbs, striped marlin averaging 100lbs, and a few sailfish mixed in, taking mostly darker colored trolled lures. Fish were spread from Pescadero to Cabo Pulmo, about 10 miles offshore.

Tuna - lots of bent rods at week's end, with school sized fish to 20lbs blind-striking mostly brighter colored trolled lures, 2 to 5 miles off Cabo Pulmo.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: July 13, 2002

Typical July weather this week, with daytime highs in the low 90's, pleasant evenings and mornings, cool water around 78deg, with calm seas most of the week. An explosive dorado bite at week's end tops our report, with a continuation of the great billfish bite we've enjoyed lately. Fewer roosters this week, as most boats were concentrating on billfish and dorado. Most of the action was on lures, as sardinas were scarce this week.

Dorado - picky biters at the beginning of the week turned into ravenous beasts for the weekend, with many fish over 50 pounds taking mostly bright colored lures, spread throughout the bay, from Pescadero to Cabo Pulmo, 3 - 10 miles out.

Billfish - the marlin bite continues, with blue marlin to 250lbs, striped marlin averaging 100lbs, and a few sailfish mixed in, taking mostly darker colored trolled lures. Fish were spread from Pescadero to the lighthouse, from 15 - 20 miles offshore.

Tuna - an erratic bite, with limits one day followed by nothing the next. School sized fish to 20lbs were blind-striking mostly brighter colored trolled lures, 2 to 5 miles off Cabo Pulmo.

Roosterfish/Amberjack/Pargo - After a fantastic run of over two months of incredible roosterfish action, we've finally had an off week, with fewer (but still impressive sized) roosters to 60lbs taken this week, from La Ribera to Los Frailes, mostly on live mullet. Big amberjack averaging 40lbs were bending rods at La Ribera and Los Frailes, with live lisas working best. A 60lb wahoo came in early in the week, followed by a 45lb pargo on Saturday.

Unusually mild weather again this week, with daytime highs in the mid 80's, cool evenings and mornings, cool water from 76-78deg, with calm seas most of the week. Despite the erratic weather conditions, the billfishing couldn't be better (local Mark Rayor took a 550lb blue marlin), with our fleet averaging better than 1 marlin per boat.

Billfish - Exceptional fishing in spite of the goofy water temp. Fish taken from Pescadero to the lighthouse. At least 1 per boat for stripers, with some blues and sails mixed in, with some action on lures, but mostly on live bait.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: June 29, 2002

Mild weather again this week, with daytime highs in the upper 80's, cool evenings and mornings, continued mixed water from 70-81deg, with calm seas most of the week. A strange weather year. It sure looked like an El Nino year in the early spring, but very cold green water from the south has changed that. We're experiencing typical April conditions and fishing in late June. Lots of striped marlin, an excellent roosterfish bite, and a decent dorado bite was in store for our anglers this week.

Striped Marlin - At least 1 per day for those anglers targeting marlin, with the best action north of Punta Arena, about 7-12 miles offshore, with fish taking live bait and trolled lures equally well, with red lures performing best.

Blue Marlin - 8 taken out of 70 boat departures, with fish to 550lbs taken exclusively on dark colored larger trolled lures.

Roosterfish/Amberjack - An awesome year for roosters, with some really big fish early, lots of 30 to 70 pounders taken this week off most area beaches, with amberjack to 65lbs mixed in, mostly off the southerly beaches. It's been a record year, with live lisas working best.

Dorado - The bite is improving, a better week. Big bulls to 58lbs taking mostly marlin lures, with most boats scoring.

Fisherman of the Week - Don Camera from Escalon, CA, while fishing 2 days on a cruiser, released 2 striped marlin to 160lbs and 5 roosterfish to 50lbs, and took a 58lb dorado.

Spectacular inshore fishing for jacks, pargo, and BIG roosterfish (the best year I can recall for roosters). A decent striped marlin and dorado bite, with a few blue marlin over 300lbs mixed with sailfish south, while warmer water prevails further north.

Roosterfish - Big roosters early, with many over 60lbs hitting off all area beaches. Fly fishing guru Gary Graham took 4 roosters one morning from 15 to 45lbs - all from the beach.

Billfish - A mediocre striped marlin bite, mixed in with a few blues and sails (probably due to the colder water). Almost all strikes were on squid colored lures.

Dorado, Amberjack, Pargo - The dorado bite has moved in closer to shore, mixed in with lots of pargo and amberjack, with live sardinas, mullet and caballito working best.

Fish Count for 71 boats this week - 11 sailfish, 4 blue marlin, 28 striped marlin, 77 pargo, 35 dorado, 35 amberjack, and 46 roosterfish.
