Feliz Navidad! More typical winter weather, with cool mornings
in the 60's and afternoon highs in the mid 70's, with partly
cloudy, windy conditions most of the week. Cooler water temp
71-73deg. with few boat departures.
Billfish - Striped marlin with some black marlin mixed in
are north, 5-10 miles off Punta Pescadero, taking a mix of
live bait and trolled lures, but remain picky biters.
Dorado - Concentrated on the buoys off Punta Pescadero, averaging
10-15lbs with some larger bulls to 30lbs mixed in, taking
mostly live sardinas, mackerel and hoochies.
Tuna - School-sized yellowfin reported at the tuna hole off
Cabo Pulmo, taking mostly weighted live bait. Very little
pressure, as most boats fishing north for dorado and marlin.
Inside - Lots of sierra, taking live bait, hoochies and chrome,
off most area beaches, with many taken by shore fishermen.

Nearly a carbon copy of last week, with cool mornings in
the 60's and afternoon highs in the upper 70's, with partly
cloudy, windy conditions most of the week. Cool water temp
73-75deg. with few boat departures.
Billfish - Striped marlin are north, 5-10 miles off Punta
Pescadero, taking a mix of live bait and trolled lures, but
are picky biters.
Dorado - Concentrated on the buoys off Punta Pescadero, averaging
10-15lbs with some larger bulls mixed in, taking mostly live
sardinas, mackerel and hoochies.
Inside - Lots of sierra, taking live bait, hoochies and chrome,

in the week, with calm conditions and lots of sun the last

this week, but good fishing on the calm days.
Billfish - Striped marlin have moved north, 5-10 miles off
Punta Pescadero, taking a mix of live bait and trolled lures.

Typical winter weather, with cool mornings in the 60's and
afternoon highs in the mid 70's, with partly cloudy, windy
conditions most of the week, settling down by the weekend,
and cooling water temp 75-77deg. With the windy conditions,
only a few boats fished this week, with dorado the primary
catch.
Billfish - With the windy conditions, few boats ventured
outside this week, but those that did found blue & striped
marlin, along with a few sailfish concentrated about 10 miles
straight off Leonero. Most fish taken on trolled lures.
Dorado - Lots of schools close inshore, averaging 15lbs with
some big bulls to 40lbs mixed in, taking mostly live sardinas,
mackerel and hoochies.
Inside - On the calm days, roosterfish biting aggressively
from Leonero to the lighthouse, with increasing numbers of
sierra taken, slow trolled live bait working best.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: November 27, 2004
Typical November weather, with cool mornings in the upper
60's and warm afternoon highs about 80, with calm mornings,
breezy afternoons and cooler water temp 77-80deg. Exceptional
fishing for this time of year, with dorado everywhere, lots
of billfish outside, some tuna and a wide open inshore bite.
Billfish - The billfish bite continues, with blue, black
& striped marlin, along with sailfish concentrated 3-15
miles straight off Leonero. All boats targeting billfish scoring,
with live mackerel and all trolled baits working best. A 400lb
black marlin was released this week.
Dorado - All you want, with lots of schools everywhere close
inshore, averaging 20lbs with some big bulls to 40lbs mixed
in, taking mostly live sardinas, mackerel and hoochies.
Tuna - Football-sized yellowfin under porpoise, spread throughout
the bay, with an on & off bite.
Wahoo - Lots of cut lines, with wahoo within 1 mile of the
beach, straight out in front of Leonero, with fish to 40lbs
taking slow trolled live mackerel.
Inside - Roosterfish biting aggressively from Leonero to
the lighthouse, with increasing numbers of sierra taken, slow
trolled live bait working best.

Mild November weather, with cool mornings in the upper 60's
and warm afternoon highs near 80, with some overcast and mixed
water temp 76-80deg. Another good fishing week, with striped
marlin, blue marlin, sailfish, dorado, sierra and roosterfish
all being taken.
Billfish - The billfish bite continues, with blue marlin
concentrated 10 miles straight off Leonero, with striped marlin
and sailfish mixed in. Most boats in the area scoring, with
live mackerel presented to tailers working best.
Dorado - Lots of school-sized fish everywhere close inshore,
with some big bulls to 40lbs lurking off the buoys at Punta
Pescadero, taking mostly live sardinas, mackerel and hoochies.
Inside - Roosterfish active from La Ribera to the lighthouse,
with some sierra mixed in, slow trolled live bait working
best.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: November 13, 2004
Winter conditions have arrived, with intermittent north wind.
Cool mornings about 70deg and warm afternoon highs in the
80's, with water temp around 80deg. Good fishing most of the
week, with happy anglers and plenty of good bait available.
Striped marlin, blue marlin, sailfish, dorado, sierra and
roosterfish all being taken.
Billfish - A good bite for striped & blue marlin, as
well as sailfish. The action was concentrated 10-15 miles
straight off Leonero, with most boats in the area scoring,
with live mackerel and darker colored trolled lures working
best.
Dorado - Lots of smaller fish 7-11lbs close inshore, with
some big bulls to 45lbs lurking off the buoys at Punta Pescadero,
taking mostly live sardinas, mackerel and hoochies.
Yellowfin Tuna - the bite was off this week, with some fish
at the tuna hole off Cabo Pulmo. Average 5-10lbs with some
larger fish mixed in, with live sardinas producing best.
Inside - Roosterfish more active from La Ribera to the lighthouse,
with some sierra mixed in, slow trolled live bait working
best.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: November 6, 2004
Rough weather Tue. & Wed., with improving conditions
as the week progressed. Cool mornings about 70deg and warm
afternoon highs in the 80's, with cooling water temp 81deg,
and afternoon breezes. The fishing really picked up Fri. &
Sat. with good numbers of striped marlin, sailfish, dorado,
and yellowfin tuna all being taken.
Striped Marlin/Sailfish - The bite for billfish really picked
up as the week progressed. The action was concentrated 10-15
miles straight off Leonero, with most boats in the area scoring,
with live mackerel and darker colored trolled lures working
best.
Dorado - mixed with the billfish outside, and lots of smaller
fish 7-11lbs close inshore, with some larger fish to 35lbs
mixed in, taking mostly live sardinas and hoochies. The occasional
bull taken on marlin lures.
Yellowfin Tuna - lots of fish in the same spot off Cabo Pulmo
for the last 2 months. Average 5-10lbs with larger fish to
45lbs mixed in. The bite really picked up at the end of the
week, with live sardinas producing best.
Inside - Roosterfish active from La Ribera to the lighthouse,
with sierra starting to show up.
Special Note - Jesse Maldonado (the banjo-playing taxi driver)
passed away this week. A real character and Rancho Leonero
old-timer, he will be missed.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: October 30, 2004
Happy Halloween! Milder weather all week, with mornings about
70deg and warm afternoon highs in the 80's, with water temp
84deg, and some afternoon breezes and the occasional rain
shower . A slower week, with dorado, yellowfin tuna, sailfish,
and some wahoo and pargo biting inshore.
Yellowfin tuna - fish from 10-45lbs inshore south, from Cabo
Pulmo to Los Frailes, 2-3 miles offshore, taking exclusively
live sardinas.
Dorado - close inshore, many schools with lots of fish from
7-12lbs, with the occasional larger fish mixed in, taking
mostly live sardinas and hoochies.
Billfish - sailfish and a few stripers close inshore, with
fish mixed in with the dorado and tuna. taking exclusively
live mackerel and sardinas.
Inside - Wahoo taken off Gordo Banks, 2-3 per day for the
Leonero fleet. A good pargo bite bottom fishing the local
reefs with live bait.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: October 23, 2004
Mild weather all week, with cool mornings in the upper 60's
and warm afternoon highs in the 80's, with warm water temp
86deg, and some afternoon SE breezes. Very good fishing most
of the week, with bumpy overcast conditions the last couple
of days slowing the weekend bite. Dorado, yellowfin tuna,
sailfish, blue marlin, and striped marlin are all biting close
inshore.
Yellowfin tuna - inshore south, from Cabo Pulmo to Vinorama,
2-3 miles offshore. Very bunched schools 5-35lb tuna, with
larger fish to 100lbs further outside Picky biters taking
mostly live sardinas and mackerel.
Dorado - close inshore, many schools with lots of fish from
5-20lbs, with the occasional 40-pounder mixed in, taking mostly
live bait. All anglers enjoying success.
Billfish - lots of sailfish, close inshore, a consistent
bite with sails mixed in with the dorado and tuna. taking
live mackerel and sardinas. Some blues and a few stripers
(water too warm for the stripers), releasing 1-2 blues per
day.
Inside - Dennis Spike's kayak fishing group did well, taking
over 20 different species, including dorado, tuna, jacks,
pargo and roosterfish.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: October 16, 2004
Nice weather all week, with cool mornings in the upper 60's
and warm afternoon highs in the mid 80's, with variable water
temp 82-86deg, and some afternoon SE breezes. Although the
fishing was a bit slower this week, fish have moved back closer
inside, with sailfish, yellowfin tuna, dorado, pargo &
roosterfish all active.
Yellowfin tuna - the tuna hole, about a mile off Cabo Pulmo,
has been producing most of the tuna, with larger fish way
south, near Punta Gordo. Tuna 10-60lbs taking mostly live
sardinas, mackerel, hoochies and cedar plugs.
Dorado - mixed in with the tuna off Pulmo, with fish from
15-45lbs taking mostly live bait, with some larger fish taken
on marlin lures outside.
Billfish - mostly sailfish, spread throughout the bay, from
5-10 miles out, taking live mackerel and sardinas.
Inside - no pressure, but some nice roosterfish to 40lbs,
cruising off most area beaches, from Leonero to the lighthouse.
Slow trolled live sardinas and caballitos working best. Dennis
Spike's kayak fishing group doing well, taking dorado, tuna,
grouper, pargo and roosterfish.

Pleasant weather all week, with cool mornings in the upper
60's and warmer afternoon highs around 90, with variable water
temp 83-86deg. Fishing has moved further outside, but other
than that, nearly a carbon copy of last week.
Yellowfin tuna - most fish about 15-20 miles off Cabo Pulmo,
with larger fish to 60lbs way north, about 40 miles out. Tuna
taking mostly live sardinas, mackerel, hoochies and cedar
plugs, with limits for most boats.
Dorado - mixed in with the tuna off Pulmo, with fish from
15-45lbs taking mostly live bait, with some larger fish taken
on marlin lures.
Billfish - mostly sailfish, spread throughout the bay, from
5-15 miles out, taking live mackerel and sardinas.
Wahoo - a number of wahoo came in this week, located between
the lighthouse and Cabo Pulmo, about a mile off the beach.
Purple marauders working best.
Inside - no pressure, but those going after roosters were
rewarded with some nice fish to 40lbs, cruising off most area
beaches, from Leonero to the lighthouse. Slow trolled live
sardinas and caballitos working best.

Pleasant weather all week, with cooler mornings in the upper
60's and afternoon highs in the mid 80's, with calm, cooling
water around 83deg inside & 86deg outside. Looks like
an early winter this year. Fishing very consistent, with yellowfin
tuna, dorado, sailfish and blue marlin all biting.
Yellowfin tuna - concentrated off Cabo Pulmo, with smaller
fish just offshore, and larger fish 3-4 miles out. Tuna from
5-35lbs taking mostly live sardinas, with limits for all anglers.
Dorado - very close inshore, from near the boat moorings
at Leonero south to the lighthouse. Some larger fish to 55lbs
outside. Slow trolled live bait working best.
Billfish - lots of sailfish, 2 or 3 per boat not unusual.
Located just outside the tuna, 5-10 miles off Cabo Pulmo,
taking live mackerel and sardinas. Quite a few blue marlin
from 200-300lbs mixed in with the tuna, taking live bait.
Wahoo - a number of wahoo came in this week, located between
the lighthouse and Cabo Pulmo, about 1 mile off the beach.
Purple marauders working best.
Inside - no pressure, with most boats concentrating on the
hot tuna/dorado bite. Some large solitary roosterfish, cruising
off most area beaches, from Leonero to the lighthouse. Slow
trolled live sardinas and caballitos working best.

Pleasant weather all week, with cooler mornings in the upper
60's and afternoon highs about 90, with calm, warm, blue water
around 87deg. The wide-open tuna and dorado bite continues,
with limits for all anglers. Lots of sailfish with the occasional
blue marlin, and more wahoo this week.
Billfish - lots of sailfish, with a few striped marlin and
some larger blue marlin to 400lbs, spread throughout the bay,
from Leonero south to Cabo Pulmo, from 10-15 miles out, with
live mackerel presented to tailing fish and trolled squid
colored lures working best.
Dorado - the strong bite continues, with schooling fish concentrated
5-8 miles off the lighthouse, with fish from 10-40bs, taking
mostly live sardinas, mackerel and hoochies, limits for all.
Big bulls to 45lbs outside, taking trolled lures.
Yellowfin Tuna - larger fish (to 80lbs) this week, with,
free-swimming schools of tuna averaging 25lbs taking live
bait, hoochies and cedar plugs. Most boats limiting out, with
tuna from Leonero to Cabo Pulmo, about 5 miles out. By week's
end the bite moved south of Los Frailes, with those making
the longer boat ride being rewarded with larger fish.
Wahoo - a number of wahoo to 50lbs came in this week, located
between the lighthouse and Cabo Pulmo, about 1 mile off the
beach. Purple marauders working best.
Inside - some pargo and amberjack mixed in with hungry roosterfish,
cruising off most area beaches, from Leonero to the lighthouse.
Slow trolled live sardinas and caballitos working best.
Fisherman of the Week - Jerome Ranft of Crockett, CA, while
fishing 3 days in a cruiser, released 4 sailfish and 1 blue
marlin (all in 1 day), while taking limits of dorado to 40lbs
and tuna to 70lbs each day.

Warm weather all week, with mornings around 70 and afternoon
highs to the low-90's, with warm, blue water around 87deg.
A bit stormy at midweek with the passage of Hurricane Javier
on the Pacific side, but no missed fishing days. The wide-open
tuna and dorado bite continues, with limits for all anglers.
A very active sailfish and blue marlin bite. The action is
very spread, with fish from Leonero to Cabo Pulmo, with the
tuna and dorado 3-5 miles offshore, and the billfish 10-15
miles out.
Billfish - lots of sailfish, and the return of blue marlin
in numbers, spread throughout the bay, from Leonero south
to Cabo Pulmo. Many aggressive smaller blue marlin (less than
300lbs), with live mackerel presented to tailing fish and
trolled squid colored lures working best.
Dorado - the strong bite continues, with schooling fish from
Leonero to Cabo Pulmo, 3-5 miles out, with fish from 5-30bs,
taking mostly live sardinas, mackerel and hoochies, limits
for all. Big bulls to 45lbs outside, taking trolled lures.
Yellowfin Tuna - a continuing hot bite. No longer under porpoise,
schools of tuna from 5-40lbs taking live bait, hoochies and
cedar plugs. Most boats limiting out, with tuna from Leonero
to Cabo Pulmo, 3-5 miles out.
Inside - some pargo mixed in with lots of hungry roosterfish,
cruising off most area beaches, from Leonero to the lighthouse.
Slow trolled live sardinas and caballitos working best.
Fisherman of the Week - Dan Walsh of Leucadia, CA, while
fishing 3 days on a cruiser, took or released 2 blue marlin
(largest 470lbs), 4 sailfish, limits of dorado and tuna.

Warmer weather this week, with mornings in the low 70's and
afternoon highs to the mid-90's, with warm water temp 86-90deg,
and some afternoon SE breezes with an occasional rain shower.
Awesome fishing continues, with limits for all anglers on
billfish, tuna and dorado. The action is very spread, with
fish from Punta Pescadero down to Cabo Pulmo.
Billfish - spread throughout the bay, with sailfish, striped
marlin and blue marlin mixed together, all very active. Live
mackerel and squid colored lures working best.
Dorado - schooling fish off the lighthouse, with larger fish
this week averaging 15-25bs, taking mostly live sardinas and
hoochies, limits for all. Big bulls to 50lbs outside, taking
trolled lures.
Yellowfin Tuna - further outside this week, but bigger fish.
Under porpoise, 10-15 miles straight out from Leonero, with
fish from 15-50lbs taking live bait, hoochies and cedar plugs.
All boats limiting out.
Inside - no pressure at all, with a few roosterfish to 40lbs
released.
Fisherman of the Week - Ron Young's group (Expeditions by
Ron), mostly from Texas, released 57 billfish on 21 boat departures,
and took limits of tuna and dorado.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: August 21, 2004
Mild weather continues, with mornings in the low 70's and
afternoon highs around 90, with warm water temp 86-88deg,
and some afternoon SE breezes. Very good fishing, with yellowfin
tuna, dorado, sailfish, striped marlin and blue marlin all
biting. The tuna and dorado bite is so close and strong that
most boats are returning by noon with limits. With the great
dorado and tuna fishing, there's light pressure on the billfish.
Billfish - sailfish have invaded the area in force, with
most boats targeting billfish releasing 3-4 per day per boat.
Some smaller blue marlin and striped marlin mixed in with
the sails.
Dorado - schooling fish inside, about 1-3 miles offshore
from La Ribera to the lighthouse, averaging 5-15bs, taking
mostly live bait and hoochies, limits for all. Big bulls to
50lbs outside, taking bait and trolled lures.
Yellowfin Tuna - close in, mixed in with dorado, 1-3 miles
offshore, from La Ribera to the lighthouse, with fish 10-60lbs
taking live bait, hoochies and cedar plugs. All boats limiting
out.
Inside - roosterfish and pargo. Very light pressure with
most boats loading up on tuna and dorado.
Fisherman of the Week - Zack Zacharias of Leucadia, CA, while
fishing 4 days in a cruiser, took limits of tuna to 25lbs
and dorado to 30lbs; and released several sailfish and striped
marlin.

Mild weather for August, with mornings in the low 70's and
afternoon highs around 90, with steady water temp at 85deg,
and some afternoon SE breezes. A good week, with limits of
dorado and tuna close in, and a sailfish feeding frenzy at
week's end. Lots of good bait (mackerel, mullet & sardinas)
still in the area.
Billfish - lots of sailfish the last several days, concentrated
5 miles off Punta Pescadero with live bait (mackerel) working
best. Many boats releasing up to 5-7 sails per day. Fewer
marlin this week, as most boats concentrating on the awesome
inside bite.
Dorado - schooling fish inside, about 2-4 miles offshore
from Leonero to the lighthouse, averaging 15bs, taking mostly
live bait and hoochies, limits for all. Big bulls to 45lbs
outside, taking bait and trolled lures.
Yellowfin Tuna - close in this week, mixed in with dorado,
2-4 miles offshore, from Leonero to the lighthouse, with fish
to 30lbs taking live bait, hoochies and cedar plugs. Many
boats limiting out.
Wahoo - a number of good-sized wahoo again this week, taking
bait and lures.
Inside - the roosterfish bite slowed this week, but lots
of fish to 60lbs seen cruising the beaches from Leonero to
the lighthouse. Pargo to 25lbs on the reefs off La Ribera,
with best results coming from yo-yoing jigs. Dennis Spike's
kayak group has been taking dorado, tuna and pargo all week.
Fisherman of the Week - 11-year old Robin Price, of Jupiter,
FL, while fishing with live mullet from the beach in front
of the hotel, took a 25lb tripletail pargo.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: August 7, 2004
Pleasant weather, with mornings in the low 70's and mild
highs around 90, with steady water temp at 85deg, and afternoon
SE breezes. Fishing action went up a notch this week, with
tuna returning in numbers, and limits of school-sized dorado
close in. Lots of good bait (mackerel, mullet & sardinas)
in the water.
The Bisbee Tournament at midweek was won by a 386lb blue
marlin, with over 50 smaller blue marlin (under 300lbs) released.
Billfish - lots of blue marlin and sailfish, spread throughout
the bay, from 3 to 15 miles out, with live bait (mackerel)
working best for the sails, while blues taking both live bait
and lures.
Dorado - schooling fish inside, about 1-3 miles offshore
from Leonero to the lighthouse, averaging 10bs, taking mostly
live bait and hoochies, limits for all. Big bulls to 45lbs

Wahoo - a number of good-sized wahoo this week, taking bait
and lures.
Inside - the roosterfish bite continues, with fish to 60lbs
cruising the beaches from Leonero to the lighthouse, taking
live bait. Pargo on the reefs off La Ribera, with best results
coming from yo-yoing jigs. Vacationing golfer Nick Price and
I have been taking roosters to 60lbs and pargo to 30lbs, fishing
from the beach with live bait.
Fisherman of the Week - Gong Wong of Huntington Beach, CA,
while fishing 4 days on a cruiser, took limits of dorado each
day, limits of tuna to 80lbs, a wahoo, and released 2 sailfish.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: July 31, 2004
Pleasant weather, with mornings in the low 70's and mild
highs around 90, with variable water temp 80-87deg, and afternoon
SE breezes. Spotty fishing this week, lots of fish in the
water, but very picky on the bite. Many blues around, 3 released
on Saturday. The sailfish bite is picking up, with lots of
smaller dorado inside.
Billfish - the bite is picking up for striped marlin and
sailfish, spread throughout the bay, about 15 miles out, with
live bait (mackerel) working best. Blue marlin are concentrated
in 2 areas, about 25-40 miles off Punta Pescadero, near the
88 Spot, also 6-30 miles off Los Frailes, with fish taking
both live bait and lures.
Dorado - schooling fish inside, about 1-3 miles offshore
from Leonero to the lighthouse, averaging 5-12lbs, taking
mostly live bait and hoochies, limits for all. Big bulls to
40lbs outside, mixed in with marlin, taking trolled lures.
Inside - the roosterfish bite continues, with larger fish
to 65lbs cruising the beaches from Leonero to the lighthouse,

Warm summer weather, with mornings in the low 70's and warm
humid days to the mid 90's, with a couple of days of overcast
late in the week with an occasional shower, and variable water
temp 81-85deg. A decent week, with striped marlin and limits
of dorado topping the fare.
Billfish - lots of striped marlin, spread throughout the
bay, about 15 miles out, with the best results coming from
teasing the fish with lures, then throwing live bait on the
tailers.
Dorado - schooling fish inside, about 1-3 miles offshore
from Leonero to the lighthouse, averaging 10-15lbs, taking
mostly live bait and hoochies, limits for all. Big bulls to
45lbs outside, mixed in with marlin, taking trolled lures.
Yellowfin tuna - under porpoise, concentrated about 15 miles
off the lighthouse, with fish to 70lbs (ave. 20lbs) taking
live bait, hoochies and cedar plugs.
Inside - the roosterfish bite has returned, with fish to
40lbs cruising the beaches from Leonero to the lighthouse,
taking live bait.
Fisherman of the Week - Mike Griffin of Salinas, CA, while
fishing 3 days on a cruiser, took limits of dorado to 45lbs

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: July 17, 2004
Warm summer weather, with mornings in the low 70's and warm
days to the mid 90's, with variable water temp 83-87deg. Some
wind and rain as Tropical Storm Blas passed by the area at
midweek. A bit slower this week, mostly weather related, with
several days of rough seas. However, a good blue marlin bite
(the best in years), combined with some huge pargo made for
a good overall fishing week.
Billfish - blue marlin very active, it should be a good Bisbee
tournament starting Aug. 4th. Fish taking mostly dark colored
lures on the high spots, with the bite for this time of the
season the best in years. Some striped marlin, very spread.
Dorado - lots of schooling fish inside, very close to shore,
averaging 10lbs, taking mostly live bait. Big bulls to 50lbs
outside, mixed in with marlin, taking trolled lures.
Yellowfin tuna - under porpoise, outside. Slower this week,
with fish taking mostly live bait.
Inside - big pargo this week - a 60lb monster was taken.
The roosterfish bite has slowed.
Fisherman of the Week - Byron George of Durham, CA, while
fishing 3 days on a cruiser, took limits of dorado, and a
60lb pargo on 30lb line, the largest we've ever seen taken
on rod and reel.

Extraordinary fishing continues, with limits of marlin and
dorado for all anglers. Lots of good bait keeping the fish
close in.
Billfish - blues, stripers and sailfish throughout the bay,
very spread, lots of tailers, with the blues north, 10-15
miles out. Some larger blues this week, including a 700lb
monster. Fish biting equally well on bait and lures.
Dorado - Limits for all. lots schooling inside, 300 yds to
4 miles out, averaging 10lbs, taking mostly live bait. Big
bulls to 45lbs outside, mixed in with marlin.
Yellowfin tuna - under porpoise, about 20-30 miles out. Some
quality fish (largest this week 80lbs) but very light pressure
with most anglers staying inside.
Inside - big roosterfish everywhere from Leonero south to
the lighthouse (largest 60lbs). Lots of 40-50 pounders, mixed
in with jacks and pompano. Big pargo this week also, with
fish to 40 lbs mixed in with the roosters.
Fisherman of the Week - Local angler Mike O'Dell, while fishing
on his cruiser Sonrisa, took a 700lb blue marlin.

Happy Independence Day! Warm summer weather, with mild mornings
near 70 and warm days to the low 90's, with warmer than usual
water temp 85+, and calm, clear conditions with some afternoon
SE breezes. Extraordinary fishing continues, with limits of
marlin and dorado for all anglers. Lots of very good bait
available, sardinas, mackerel, lisa and caballitos. Most fish
are very close inshore, with the yellowfin tuna schooling
much further outside.
Billfish - 45 stripers, 11 blues, 2 sailfish. Very spread,
lots of tailers, with the blues north, 10-15 miles out. Almost
all taken on lures, with some on mackerel. Biting very aggressively.
Dorado - Limits for all. lots schooling inside, 300 yds to
4 miles out, averaging 10lbs, taking mostly live bait. Big
bulls to 50lbs outside, mixed in with marlin.
Yellowfin tuna - under porpoise, much further outside, 30-50
miles out. Some quality fish, but very light pressure with
most anglers staying inside.
Inside - big roosterfish! lots of 50 pounders, mixed in with
jacks, pompano and pargo. Wide open, the larger fish more
solitary, but lots around biting aggressively.
Fisherman of the Week - Will Taylor from South Africa, while
fishing 2 days in cruiser, released 4 striped marlin, and
took limits of dorado to 30lbs on fly tackle, along with roosterfish
and pargo.

Warm early summer weather, with mild mornings near 70 and
warm days to the low 90's, with warmer than usual water temp
85 to 88deg, and calm, clear conditions with some afternoon

numbers, with 315 taken this week. Lots of striped marlin
as well as increasing numbers of blue marlin. The big tuna
have moved outside, and the bite inside remains hot for roosterfish
& pargo. Lots of bait in the area.
Dorado - lots schooling inside, averaging 10-15lbs, with
big bulls to 60lbs outside; over 300 taken this week. Our
kayak fishermen are slaying dorado, with most fish taken on
live sardinas.
Yellowfin tuna - big schools, further outside this week,
from 3-40 miles out, with fish to 142lbs taking hoochies,
cedar plugs and live bait. Less pressure, with most anglers
targeting dorado and billfish.
Billfish - The striped marlin bite remains close in this
week, with lots of jumpers and tailers 3-12 miles offshore.
Bigger blues this week to 450lbs, with sailfish moving in
also. Most anglers targeting marlin are hooking up.
Inside - big roosterfish to 80lbs directly in front of Leonero
and La Ribera, biting aggressively, and pargo very active
off most area beaches, with over 100 taken this week.
Fish Count - 100 yellowfin tuna, 315 dorado, 27 roosterfish,
47 striped marlin released, 9 sailfish, 111 pargo, and 11
blue marlin.
Fisherman of the Week - Dale Bruce, while fishing 3 days
on a cruiser, released his first blue marlin, estimated at
300lbs, and took 10 dorado to 40lbs, and 10 tuna to 30lbs.

Yellowfin tuna - a wide open bite all week, with fish from
15 to 150lbs under 2 different schools of porpoise, about
12 miles off La Ribera, with all anglers limiting. Hungry
fish are taking cedar plugs and live sardinas.
Billfish - The striped marlin bite remains close in this
week, with lots of jumpers and tailers 3-12 miles offshore.
Most boats releasing at least 1 striper, with fish aggressively
taking live bait. 4 blue marlin to 300lbs this week.
Dorado - an improving bite, with big solitary bulls to 50lbs+
outside mixed with marlin, with our kayak fishermen taking
lots of 5-15lb fish inside. Best results from trolled marlin
lures and live sardinas.
Wahoo - a couple of nice wahoo this week to 60lbs on lures.
Inside - big roosterfish to 65lbs directly in front of Leonero
and La Ribera, biting aggressively, and jack crevalle very
active off most area beaches.
Fish Count - 323 yellowfin tuna, 56 striped marlin released,
2 sailfish, 6 pargo, 50 dorado, 42 jack crevalle, 57 roosterfish,
2 wahoo, and 4 blue marlin.
Fisherman of the Week - Dennis Spike's kayak fishing group
has been experiencing some of the best kayak fishing in memory,
taking limits of roosterfish, dorado, jack crevalle and pargo.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: June 12, 2004
Great weather all week, with mild mornings near 70 and warm
days in the low 90's, with warmer water temp to 82deg, with
calm, clear conditions. Lots of fish, but very picky biters
most of the week. The bite outside has picked up the last
couple of days with large schools of tuna to 50lbs, 15-40
miles offshore. The fishing is very spread, with roosterfish
inshore, with striped marlin and dorado 1-12 miles out. Still
lots of squid in the water, keeping the gamefish in the area.
Yellowfin tuna - under porpoise, 15-20 miles off Cabo Pulmo,
and another school about 35-45 miles straight out from Leonero.
Anglers taking the long run are limiting on fish 12-55lbs,
taking cedar plugs and live sardinas.
Billfish - The striped marlin bite is closer in this week,
with lots of jumpers and tailers 1-12 miles offshore. Picky
biters, taking mostly trolled lures. Blue marlin starting
to show, with 2 released on Saturday.
Dorado - some big solitary bulls to 50lbs+. Not much schooling
action yet, with fish taking mostly trolled marlin lures,
1-12 miles out.
Inside - roosterfish and jack crevalle very active off most
area beaches, as they have been all year. A consistent bite
with less pressure as most boats are chasing tuna.
Fisherman of the Week - Carol McCabe of San Diego, CA, while
fishing 2 days in a cruiser, released 2 striped marlin and
took a 56lb dorado.

Great weather all week, with mild mornings near 70 and warmer
days in the low 90's, with steady water temp 78-80deg, with
calm, clear blue water outside, with some green water inside.
Lots of fish in the Cortez, but very picky biters outside.
The inshore bite remains wide open. Lots of squid in the area
is affecting the blue water bite, with a wide open outside
bite early in the week slowing by the weekend.
Billfish - The striped marlin bite is spread, with lots of
tailers 1-20 miles off La Ribera and Punta Pescadero, taking
almost exclusively live caballitos.
Dorado - a so-so bite, but nice-sized quality fish this week,
closer inside with fish to 50lbs under structure.
Tuna - lots of fish averaging 10-15lbs (with some bigger
fish mixed in) concentrated about 30 miles off the lighthouse,
under porpoise. Fish are taking live bait, hoochies, trolled
lures and cedar plugs.
Inside - the hot roosterfish bite continues, with fish from
10-60lbs very active off all area beaches, taking live sardinas
and caballitos. Pargo and jack cravelle biting well off the
reefs from Leonero to the lighthouse.

a 50lb roosterfish while fishing from our rolling dock.

Lots of good bait remain in the area (sardinas and caballitos).
Overall good fishing, with a couple of off days early in the
week. The bite really picked up by the weekend, with striped
marlin, tuna, dorado, roosterfish and pargo all biting well.
On Saturday a 52lb wahoo came in.
Billfish - The striped marlin bite has spread throughout
the bay, with the best action 5-20 miles out, from La Ribera
south to the lighthouse - throwing live bait on tailing fish
working best.
Dorado - fewer fish, but nice-sized quality fish this week,
with do-do's from 30-50lbs+ taking live bait and marlin lures
- very spread throughout the bay.
Tuna - lots of fish averaging 15-20lbs concentrated about
20 miles off the lighthouse, under porpoise, with many boats
taking limits. Fish are aggressively taking live bait, hoochies,
trolled lures and cedar plugs.

- 1 angler released 30 in one day. We even had 3 snook (robalo)

trolling squid colored lures. Averaging about 1 per boat.
Inside - tons of roosterfish (all you want) 10-40lbs very

Billfish - as many as you want, with tailers everywhere.
The main bite is about 4 miles off La Ribera - best results

Dorado - lots of quality fish to 50lbs mixed in with the
marlin, with most boats taking limits, mostly on marlin lures.
Inside - lots of roosterfish very active early off most area
beaches, with little pressure as most anglers targeting the
awesome marlin bite.
Fish Count - 5 days boat departures, 37 striped marlin, 13
dorado, 10 roosterfish, 1 wahoo.
Fisherman of the Week - Jeff Jenson and son from Rancho Santa
Fe, CA, while fishing 1 day in a cruiser, released 3 striped
marlin and took 2 dorado, and were back in by 11am.

Windy conditions Mon. & Tue. (1st wind since Feb.), then
nice weather the rest of the week, with pleasant mornings
in the 60's and warm days in the low 80's, with warm water
temp about 71-75deg, calm, clear, flat blue seas by the weekend.
Only 4 days of fishing with the wind at the beginning of the
week, but the bite picked up as the week progressed, with
yellowfin tuna, striped marlin, sailfish, dorado, roosterfish,
sierra, amberjack and pargo all biting consistently. The fishing
as moved in closer, with all boats getting bit within 10 miles
of Leonero.
Billfish - lots of tailing striped marlin with sailfish mixed
in, but still picky biters - best results from throwing live
bait on tailing fish.
Yellowfin Tuna - under porpoise, with fish to 30lbs taking
mostly live caballitos.
Dorado - lots of quality fish 10-50lbs spread throughout
the bay, taking mostly live bait.
Inside - lots of roosterfish to 35lbs, very active early
off most area beaches, with jack crevalle mixed in.
Fish Count - 4 days boat departures, 23 roosterfish, 16 pargo,
12 sierra, 1 cabrilla, 20 jack crevalle, 34 yellowfin tuna,
23 dorado, 4 sailfish, 4 striped marlin, 1 wahoo.
Fisherman of the Week - Dennis Spike's kayak group knocked
'em dead on the reefs this week. In 3 days of kayak fishing
the group took or released amberjack to 30lbs, pargo to 20lbs,
dorado to 18lbs, jack crevalle to 20lbs, roosterfish to 15lbs,
plus pompano, aku and triggerfish.

Striped Marlin - closer in this week, from 7-20 miles out,

fish are all outside, 20-40 miles offshore, on a heading of
17-20deg.
Striped Marlin - stripers active north off Cerralvo, with
lots of tailers, taking mostly live caballitos.
Yellowfin Tuna - lots of quality fish to 90lbs, under a huge
school of porpoise at least 4-5 miles across, with the larger
fish taking live caballitos, and the smaller tuna taking hoochies
and cedar plugs.
Dorado - located north in the same area as the tuna, with
fish to 40lbs taking mostly marlin lures.
Inside - pargo and sierra right in front of Leonero, with
roosterfish from La Ribera south to Los Frailes, taking live

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: March 27, 2004
Wonderful spring weather all week, with nice mornings in
the low 60's and warm days around 90, with warming water temp
around 73deg. Erratic fishing this week, with a wide open
bite one day and nothing the next. A great tuna bite at the
beginning of the week was followed by a couple of dead days
at midweek, then the bite rebounded with dorado and marlin
over the weekend. The inshore bite remains hot, with lots
of pargo, grouper, sierra and the return of roosterfish.
Striped Marlin - some stripers taken with live green mackerel,
mostly south of the lighthouse,.
Yellowfin Tuna - a strong bite of bigger fish from 50-80lbs,
close to shore off Los Frailes, with weighted live bait deep
working best. Surface fish are line shy.
Dorado - the weekend brought some nice fish to 45lbs+, as
well as lots of smaller school-sized do-do's. The bite is
spread throughout the bay, with fish taking live mackerel
and smaller bright colored lures.
Inside - lots of pargo, grouper (to 35lbs) and sierra off

Fishermen of the Week - Dan Gawne of Chicago, IL, while fishing
5 days in super pangas, took over 30 fish per day fishing
light tackle inshore.

Weekly Fish Report for week ending: March 20, 2004
Great weather all week, with nice mornings in the low 60's
and warmer than normal days around 90, with warming water
temp from 71-73deg. Calm flat conditions all week, with clear
but green water. Fishing broke wide open, as striped marlin,
dorado, tuna, wahoo, yellowtail, pargo and sierra were all
biting aggressively as the bite moved closer in, south from
the lighthouse to Los Frailes.
Striped Marlin - lots around, with the bite spread throughout
the bay, from Cerralvo south to Los Frailes, with most fish
taking live bait.
Yellowfin Tuna - the first school of the season moved in
this week, with all boats scoring fish from 40-50lbs attacking
live bait, about 3-5 miles offshore, from the lighthouse to
Los Frailes.
Dorado - the big boys finally moved in, with the weekend
seeing fish to 50lbs taking live bait and marlin lures, located
south, in the same area as the tuna.
Yellowtail - off the deep reefs from La Ribera to Punta Colorada,
with weighted live bait and yo-yoed lures producing fish to
50lbs.
Wahoo - the first wahoo of the season were taken this week,
biting dark colored lures, between Cabo Pulmo and Los Frailes.
Inside - the sierra bite continues off most area beaches,
taking live bait and shiny lures, with pargo to 35lbs also
active off the reefs, from Leonero south to Cabo Pulmo, taking
weighted live bait.
Fishermen of the Week - Jay Schultz and friends, of Desert
Hot Springs, CA, while fishing 3 days in super pangas, took
yellowtail to 50lbs, pargo to 30lbs, and lots of sierra, while
Glen Friedman of Carlsbad, CA, was busy taking tuna to 50lbs.

Spring has arrived, with nice mornings in the low 60's and
warm days in the mid 80's, with water temp holding at 69-70deg.
Calm flat conditions prevailed for most of the week, with
more boat departures as we enter the season.
Limits of dorado from 15-20lbs, north from Punta Pescadero
to Cerralvo, taking mostly live mackerel. Striped marlin active
in the same area, taking bait as well as dark colored trolled
lures. Fewer roosterfish this week, but the strong sierra
bite continues, with fish biting off most area beaches, with
some nice pargo to 30lbs mixed in.

days in the low 80's, with cooler water around 66deg. the
beginning of the week, warming to 68-70deg. by the weekend.

north winds on the weekend, but few boat departures.
More of the same, with lots of striped marlin north from
Punta Pescadero to Cerralvo, taking bait as well as dark colored
trolled lures. The early roosterfish bite continues, with

a continued strong sierra bite with some pargo mixed in, off

strong sierra bite. Lots of quality bait remain in the water.

Cooler weather this week, with clear mornings and mild days
near 70, with variable water temp 69-72deg. North winds off
and on this week with calm days sandwiched in between. A few
boat departures on the calm days.
Limits of striped marlin north, from Punta Pescadero to Cerralvo,
taking bait as well as dark colored trolled lures. Lots of
quality dorado, in the same area, taking bait and lures. An
early roosterfish bite (a 40lb rooster taken this week) from
right in front of Leonero south to the lighthouse, along with
a continued strong sierra bite. Lots of quality bait in the
water.
The last couple of days have produced schooling dorado, along
with striped marlin and sailfish about 15 miles off the lighthouse,
with tuna to 30lbs under porpoise in the same area.

Calm mornings with midday breezes some days, settling back

lures. Limits of quality dorado, north off Cerralvo Island
under a dead sea lion, taking bait and lures. An early roosterfish
bite inside, along with a strong sierra bite.

with midday north breezes, settling back down in the afternoons.
The buoys around Punta Pescadero continue to be productive,
with quality dorado mixed in with some striped marlin, with
fish taking exclusively live mackerel. Lots of sierra off
most area beaches.
