Water- Flat all week, warming, 70-72 degrees, very clear.
Air- Pleasant spring weather, highs in the 80 s, some unusual morning fog.
The action this week continues inshore. A very consistent yellowtail bite all week. I have not see a yellowtail under twenty pounds, the average fish is 25 to 30, with some whoppers to fifty. The boats are taking two to ten per day. The fish are very close to the beach a 1/4 to 1/2 mile directly in front of the hotel. They are literally a two minute boat ride from the dock. Very good roosterfish action on most beachs south of the hotel. A few smaller dorado are around, and the usual sierra and jacks are everywhere inside. There is lots of bait available, both sardine and mackerel. We are still waiting for the marlin to arrive. A few have been released this week, after a thirty mile boat ride straight off the ranch. The water continues to warm a couple of degrees a week.
Yellowtail- All quality fish, most taken on live mackerel, on the bottom in fourty to fifty feet of water, 1/4 to 1/2 miles directly off the hotel. Squid and rapalas also working, but nowhere near as well. Avg. 25 pounds to fifty, at least two per boat and as many as ten. The bait boats are restocking the fishing boats at the bite. Check out the photos this week on the RL website.
Rossterfish- Lots of ten pound class gallos. Action off La Ribera south. The roosters are biting on sardine. They are also taking flys aggressively. Mixed with lots of jacks.
Dorado- Scattered, smaller fish. Two to ten pounds. The water is still pretty cold for dorado to be showing. Most taken on trolled lures inside.
Striped marlin- Only a couple taken this week. The stripers are in the warmer water about thirty miles directly off the front of the ranch. We are about a month behind on the marlin. I expect them to show in numbers anytime now.
Thanks...John

Water: warming in the low 70 s
Air: beautiful, no wind!
Yellowtail in the 30 to 45 pound class are being taken right in front of the hotel on mackerel. A half mile to a mile off the beach. Average two or three per boat.
There are lots of small roosterfish being caught on sardine near La Ribera south of the hotel. Mostly Five to ten pounders. The fly fishermen really scoring as well.
The Marlin are getting closer. They’re fifteen to twenty miles off Frailles. Taking both mackerel and Lures.
Sorry the report is so short this week.
Thanks...John

Water- Warming 69-71. Flat since Thursday, a couple of windy days midweek.
Air- Pleasant warming, highs in the mid 80's.
All the action is inshore, with the exception of a couple of striped marlin released this week, all the good fishing has been within a couple of miles off the beach. A late winter has put us about a month behind our normal fishing season. The inside action, however has more than made up for our slow outside start. A very consistent, quality yellowtail bite, mixed with sierra, jacks, pargo, cabrilla, and big pompano, has kept RL anglers busy.
Lots of bait inshore and rapidly warming water, should bring us good outside action, anytime now.
Yellowtail- A very consistent bite, with the average fish in the thirty pound range. Taking lures north of Pescadero in the Pta. Perrico area. Live bait with sinkers working best off the La Ribera bank, and Las Arenas light house.
Pompano- Big schools of pompano three to seven pounds are close inside from the light house to Pulmo. Limits for anglers fishing inside. Taking live sardine only.
Pargo and Cabrilla- Mixed with the yellowtail, no real whoppers, but quite a few taken.
Sierra- Early morning and late evenings are producing the most sierra. Lots around as usual this time of year. Some big fish in the five to eight pound class. Bright hoochies and sardine are working.
Roosterfish- We had gallo action two days this week. In the Perrico area. In the ten pound class. All on live bait.
Thanks...John

Water Warming, 67-69 degrees. Flat, no wind.
Air Cool mornings, highs in the mid 80's, very pleasant spring weather.
The fishing in the East Cape is improving daily. The water is warming rapidly. We had a late winter and the water just started warming in the last couple of weeks. The Pacific side of the cape has cooled to the low 60's, and the warmer water is moving up into the Cortez. This week we've seen our first marlin and dorado of the season. Lots of bait inside has helped the inshore fishing. Sierra, pargo, pompano, cabrilla, grouper, jacks, and a very early roosterfish run are keeping anglers busy.
Roosterfish The bite is north of Pta. Pescadero around Cardonall. Lots of ten to twenty pounders. feeding on schools of bait close to the beach. All taken on live sardine and mackerel.
Tuna Large schools of white bonito are spread throughout the area. They are taking any lure presented, bright hoochies working best. Very white meat, excellent eating. Average five pounds.
Dorado Spotty, we are seeing four or five a day at the cleaning table. Average fish, six or seven pounds. Taken on both lures and sardine. As the water warms the bite should improve.
Striped Marlin We caught our first striper of the year yesterday. The fish was taken 35 miles offshore in 73 degree water.
Inshore Wide open inshore action. Large schools of bait inside have really made for some good fishing. Jacks mixed with roosters, sierra, pompano, pargo and cabrilla are all biting.
The warming water and abundance of bait should really help the fishing in the coming weeks.
Thanks...John

Water: Flat calm all week. 67-68 degrees
Air: Warmer pleasant, cool mornings warming to the low 80's midday.
The hotel has been closed for rennovations for the last five weeks. Our first boats out fishing in over six weeks enjoyed good fishing with a real variety of quality fish. Dorado, yellowtail, bonito, sierra, pargo and amberjacks are all plentiful with literally no fishing pressure. The bite has be north of Pescadero, off Cardonnal. The bonito are further outside with schools of dorado closer inshore. A couple of thirty-five pound yellowtail mixed with a lot of ten to twenty pounders were taken this week. Large schools of very line shy big pargo are spread throughout the area. Sierra are abundant and large. Anglers taking as many as they want, with mornings and evenings best. There is lots of bait and amberjack along the beachs. Overall a good start for the new year!
Dorado- Large schools 1 to 4 milles out. The fish are concentrated off Pescadero . Some quality dorado too 25 pounds, average fish 12. We sent out five boats over the week, all anglers limited on dorado. Trolled hoochies and live mackerel working.
Yellowtail- Some large yellowtail taken. Two over thirty-fivepounds. We had one or two per boat daily, all taken on live mackerel on sinkers. The yellowtail are on the inshore banks, off the lighthouse best.
Bonito- Limits all anglers, very large schools two to ten miles offshore. Good eating with very white meat. Five to tywelve pounds. Cedar plugs and hoochies working well.
Sierra- As usual for this time of year lots of sierra. The average fish this year is bigger than normal, with lots of 25 to 30 inchers taken. Hoochies in the early morning and late eveningworking best.
Pargo- Huge schools of very line shy, very large pargo, are spread across the bay. A couple of fifteen pounders taken. Both taken on live mackerel.
Amberjack- Really working the beachs feeding on large schools of bait.
It's good to be back in business!
