Water- 82-85, clear, flat
Air- Cooler, highs in the 80's, very pleasant
The fishing has rebounded from last weeks storm. Limits of both Yellowfin and Dorado for all anglers, with the bite fairly close, from La Ribera to Frailles. Sailfish are plentiful with very light fishing pressure. Inshore fishing is very good with big Roosters feeding on large schools of Mullet, again very light pressure, as most anglers targeting dorado and tuna. Big Humbolt Squid arrived this week averaging between 30 and 40 #'s.
Dorado- Very spread from the hotel to past Frailles. Schooling Dorado in the 5 to 25 pound class are abundant. All anglers limiting with most anglers releasing two or three for every boated fish. Normally the first Dorado is picked picked up on smaller bright lures, and the followers on live sardine. A few large bulls taken outside on marlin lures.
Yellowfin- Again limits for all anglers. From footballs to forty pounders with a couple of sixties taken. The bite is best in the Frailles area and south. A very stationary school is producing smaller tuna in the 5 to 30 pound range, all taken on sardine, and chunk squid. A little further south larger more solitary Yellowfin to sixty pounds are being taken on lures and live sardine.
Sailfish- Very light fishing pressure. The sails are 10 to 20 miles off Pulmo. Lots around, but again most anglers are staying in close for the tuna and dorado. All taken on live sardine and mullet.
Inshore- Big roosters are feeding on huge schools of Mullet, on most south beaches. Again almost no fishing pressure. Gary, the hotel manager, fishing from the beach, has released a quite a few in the 30 to 40 pound class this week. All taken on Mullet.
Humbolt Squid- A large school off La Ribera. Large squid in the thirty to forty pound range are taking squid jigs. Most boats stopping on the way to the tuna. The tuna are really going for the squid chunks.
Anglers of the week:
The Dan Walsh group, fifteen anglers from Florida, Arizona and California caught and released daily limits of Yellowfin in the 20 to 60 pound range and Dorado from 8 to 25 pounds. They released over 50 dorado. Mike Mason and Dan Walsh each took a 60 pound Yellowfin.
Special thanks to Jack Riggle 82 years old from Phoenix Az.. He brought his three daughters, all RN's, for his eighth trip to the ranch.

Water: 83-86 Icy flat all day, clear, blue.
Air: Clear skies, very little wind, temps in the high 90's.
Very, very, good fishing this week. The Dorado and Yellowfin are plentiful and close. All the boats, with limits of both species are returning to the hotel by 1:00pm. The tuna and Dorado are larger than we've taken in the last few weeks. Both species are biting in the same areas, four miles off La Ribera and five miles off Pulmo. The Tuna and Dorado are mixed together in the same two very stationary schools. Directly off the hotel are Sailfish, Blue Marlin and Striped Marlin. The East Cape has had very light fishing pressure all week, fewer hotel boats are fishing the area than normal. Inshore fishing is wide open with schools of sardine crowding most beaches. Very little fishing pressure both inside and outside as most anglers targeting the Tuna and Dorado.
Yellowfin- Two stationary schools, one off Pulmo the other off La Ribera are holding Yellowfin in the 5 to 45 pound class. All the tuna are being taken on live sardine or caballito. The larger fish are being caught using sinkers, on the bottom. All the boats are limiting very quickly. Most anglers releasing the smaller tuna.
Dorado- Mixed very closely with the Yellowfin. Limits all anglers. Larger fish this week from 12 to 50 pounds. Almost all taken on sardine or caballito. Anglers are releasing one or two fish for every keeper, lots of action.
Billfish- Very light pressure, as most anglers targeting the tuna and dorado. There are lots and lots of sailfish mixed with Striped Marlin and Blue Marlin. The billfish are six to fifteen miles offshore, spread from Pescadero to Frailles. About half are being taken on live bait, green and black lures seem to be working best.
Inshore- Again not much pressure. There are large schools of sardine on almost all the beaches. All the bait is holding some big Roosterfish and Pargo along with quality Pompano. One RL angler picked up a 35 pound Pargo under the school of tuna and dorado.
Thanks

Water- 83-85 Clear, flat, blue water one to two miles off the beach.
Air- A cooler week, afternoon breezes and clouds mixed with light rain.
The fishing has improved. Last week we enjoyed much better fishing than in the prior two weeks, and this week the fishing continues to improve. The tuna are larger, with quite a few Yellowfin taken in the 60 to 80 pound range. Smaller football size tuna are close and abundant. The Blue marlin fishing has improved as well with at least one Blue per day released by the fleet, in the 200 to 300 pound range. There are lots of sails mixed with the Blues. The tuna fishing has been so good there is very light fishing pressure on the billfish. The Dorado have reappeared with schooling fish in the ten to twenty pound range, one to three miles off the beach. Larger bulls in the 40 to 60 pound range are being taken on marlin lures. There are large schools of Sardine on almost all beachs, really making for some good inshore fishing. Big Roosterfish in the 40 to 50 pound range are plentiful. Pargo in the ten pound class are being taken from the rocks right in front of the hotel.
Yellowfin- Larger fish are being taken from under schools of fast moving porpise. The schools are pretty close, 15 miles off, between the ranch and Pta. Pescadero. Anglers taking 50 to 80 pounderson live sadine. Smaller football are in a very compact stationary school, four miles off La Ribera. Smaller tuna in the five pound range on the surface, bigger fish to 25 pound on the bottom, using sinkers.
Billfish- Some nice Blues this week. The bite is ranging three to ten miles offshore from Pta Pescadero to Frailles. At least one 250 to 300 pounder released daily, numerous blues in the 100 to 200 pound range also being released. All the blues are being taken on lures. Sailfish are abundant mixed with the Blues, most are being taken on live Sardine.
Dorado- Schooling dorado in the five to fifteen pound class are close to shore, most taken on Sardine. Outside mixed with the billfish are , larger bulls in the fourty to fifty pound class, most taken on marlin lures. The Dorado fishing really improved this week.
Inshore- Big Roosterfish in the fifty pound range are working most East Cape beachs. Pargo in the ten pound range are being taken from close inshore rocky areas. Large schools of Sardine are abundant and really helping the fishing. Lots of Needlefish are making it difficult to get the bait the fish.
Angler of the week.
Scott Szatkowski, 11 years old. From Bloomington Illinois, fishing three days on a SuperPanga caught:
1 Blue Marlin released
1 Sailfish released
5 Yellowfin to 25 #
2 Dorado to 15 #

Water- 82-86, clear flat
Air- Summer weather, hot in the mornings, cooling in the afternoon with rain showers.
Consistent tuna fishing all week for ranch anglers. A slow billfish bite early in the week, but really opening up Thursday with most boats catching a Blue marlin. There are lots of very spread Sailfish within five miles of the beach. Big dorado are being taken on marlin lures, slower fishing for the smaller Dorado inside. Inshore has been very good. Lots of quality Pargo and Roosterfish are being taken or released daily. Large schools of both sardine and caballito are off most beachs, holding some quality fish.
Yellowfin- A very stationary school of tuna 4 to 5 miles off Las Barracas. Smaller fish in the 5 to 15 pound class are feeding on the surface. Anglers using weight and going to the bottom are picking up thirty pounders. All the tuna are being taken on live sardine or caballito. Some even larger yellowfin in the 40# to 50# range were taken four miles off Pta. Pescadero, under porpise.
Billfish- A slow start early in the week. The fishing really lit up on Thursday with quite a few smaller blues in the 200# class released. The Blues were very close, four to six miles off, from the ranch to Frailles. Lots of Sails mixed with the Blues. The Blues are taking squid colored lures, and the Sails are taking almost exclusively live bait.
Inshore- Quality Roosters and Pargo this week. The Needlefish are really thick close to the beach, making for some tricky Gallo fishing. Big Roosterfsih in the fifty to sixty pound class are abundant, getting a bait to them before a needle gets it first is difficult. The Pargo are just a little further off the beach in most rocky areas, a very good bite with lots of fish in the ten pound class.
We are dealing with a tropical depression this morning. The boats are being pulled out of the water as I write. We expect lots of rain and wind of no more than fourty to fifty miles per hour. The boats will go back in the water manana.
Thanks John

Water- 79-85 degrees, clear, flat, some afternoon breezes.
Air- A cooler than normal summer. Afternoon rain showers over the mountains, overcast days midweek.
Slower than normal fishing this week. Some tuna and dorado taken, and fewer billfish than usual. A decent Dorado bite mid week, with the first real schooling dolphin we've seen this year. Lots of dorado in the ten to fifteen pound range were taken, but as the week progressed the bite slowed. Yellowfin tuna have been spotty with some tuna taken in the five to twenty pound class. The billfish have been hard to find this week, with only a few sails and stripers released. Inshore fishing is strong with both Pargo and Roosterfish abundant closer to shore. There is lots of good bait available, both sardine and mackerel.
Inshore- Big Roosters and some real quality Pargo are biting inside. Gallos in the forty pound range are common, and Pargo in the five to fifteen range are abundant. Lots of needlefish are making it difficult to get the bait to the gamefish. Huge schools of sardine on most southern beaches are making for very good inshore action.
Yellowfin- The normal stationary school off Pulmo has been producing less tuna than normal. The fish are not as stationary as usual. Lots of sardine are thick inshore and really spreading out the bite. Five to fifteen pound tuna all taken on sardine. Outside off Pescadero larger tuna in the ten to thirty pound range were taken on trolled hoochies and cedar plugs off Pescadero to Cardinal.
Dorado- Good fishing midweek with schooling fish in the five to twenty pound range. The first schooling dorado we've seen this year. The bite slowed as the week progressed.
Billfish- A slower than normal week. A few stripers and sails released. The fish are very spread.

Water 79-85, mostly flat, wind on Saturday
Air Typical summer weather, highs in the 90's
The fishing was a little slower this week. Inshore fishing has been very good with big roosters, pargo, and 5 to 10 pound yellowfin, all biting consistently. Outside the billfishing has slowed, ranch anglers actually caught more Blue marlin than striped or sails. Very good fishing for blues under three hundred pounds. The Dorado bite has been consistent, fifteen to forty pounders are abundant, the fish not quite as big as last week. Yellowfin are close to shore, smaller fish in the five to ten pound range.
Inshore. Big Roosters in the fifty to sixty pound class are being released daily. The gallos are feeding aggressively on large schools of sardine on most southern beaches. Lots of five to ten pounders mixed with some real gorillas in the forty to sixty pound range. Quite a few Pargo were also caught, average five pounds, the largest twenty-two. Almost all taken on live sardine or mullet.
Tuna. Smaller Yellowfin in the five to ten pound range all taken within two to three miles off the beach. From the lighthouse to Pulmo. Almost all taken on live sardine.
Billfish. Slower, with mostly blues being released. A strong bite early in the week but slowing as the week progressed. More blues were released in the Bisbee than sails and stripers, two blues for every sail or striper. The marlin are very close, from the hotel to Los Frailles three to ten miles offshore. The billfish were taken on a mix of slow trolled live bait and lures.
Dorado. Lots around, not quite as big as last week. The larger fish are in the forties. The larger bulls taken on marlin lures. The Dorado are very spread with better than half taken with a couple of miles of the beach.

Highs in the mid 90's, cooler than normal summer weather
The East cape had a strong Dorado and Tuna bite early in the week, it slowed midweek, and has really picked up in the last few days. The billfish bite has been improving. Blue marlin and sailfish are biting aggressively very close to the hotel. Sails, stripers and blues are spread from La Ribera to Los Frailles from three to seven miles offshore. The Blue marlin fishing is the best its been in years. Roosterfish are abundant, with gallos in the 50 to 60 pound class released daily.
Dorado- Big bulls all week. The Mahi-mahi are very spread, with large fish taken both inside and outside. Forty to fifty pound dorado are being taken daily. Some taken on live bait inshore, the majority are taking marlin lures.
Yellowfin- Smaller 5 to 20 pound tuna are schooling just outside of Pulmo Park. Most of these smaller fish are being taken on sardine. Larger solitary Yellowfin to fifty pounds were taken are very close inshore less than a half of a mile off the lighthouse.
Billfish- The billfish bite was good at the beginning of the week and has improved as the week progressed. The best Blue marlin fishing we have had in years. There are lots of sails and stripers as well, all very close, from La Ribera to Los Frailles, 3 to 7 miles offshore. We had two taken in the 400 to 500 pound class taken this week, and quite a few 200 to 300 pounders released.
Inshore- The Roosterfishing is excellent with gallos feeding on large schools of sardine on most beach's. Lots of forty to sixty pounders being released daily. Quite a few nice Pargo in the ten to twenty-five pound range have been taken this week.

Water: 78-80 inside, 81-83 outside. Clear and flat, a little cooler than normal.
Air: Very pleasant for July, cooler than normal, highs in the 80's.
The E. Cape has had excellent fishing for the last couple of weeks. Lots of Striped Marlin, some real quality Blue Marlin, Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado are all biting in the blue water. Inshore has been very good as well with Roosterfish in the forty to sixty pound class being released daily. We are enjoying cooler than normal air and water for July.
Striped Marlin- Lots around, the stripers are very spread. Very visual fishing with tailers and jumpers abundant. Most marlin taken on cast live bait. At least one per boat, with some boats releasing as many as six in one day.
Blue Marlin- Some big fish taken in the E. Cape last week. One eight and one seven hundred pounder, with numerous fish released in the three hundred pound range. The Blues are closer to shore, being taken on the inside banks, both north and south. Almost all have been taken on lures.
Yellowfin- There are schools both inside and outside. A large stationary school between the Light house and Pulmo, four to five miles offshore, has been producing limits of 10 to 25 pounders, almost all taken on sardine. In the past couple of years, this same area has held tuna for months at a stretch. Larger tuna outside under the porpoise, lots of fishing pressure on these schools.
Dorado- Big solitary bulls are mixed with the marlin. Most taken on trolled marlin lures. Real quality fish in the thirty to fifty pound range. No schools yet.
Roosterfish- Real quality Gallos on almost all south beach's. The light house has been producing some real gorillas. Gary Barnes Webb with hotel guests released a forty and a sixty pounder last Sunday.
Anglers of the week- Gary Benes from Aurora Ill. and Mike Paukstiff from Gilbert Az. fishing six days on High Roller caught:
5 Striped Marlin ( released )
1 blue Marlin " "
