Water- Clear, flat, 83 to 86 degrees. Light afternoon breezes.
Air- Very pleasant, highs in the mid 90's.
Very good fishing this week. Both Yellowfin and Dorado are providing limits for all anglers. Almost a carbon copy of last week, except the fish are substiantally larger. Most of the fish are being taken within a mile of the beach, from the hotel south to Frailles. The average tuna taken inside are around thirty pounds, with quite a few hitting the scales between fifty and seventy. Outside from 20 to 40 miles directly East, schools of porpise are holding Yellowfin to 200 plus pounds! The Dorado are bigger and more plentiful this week. Large schools of medium Dorado from ten to twenty five pounds are directly off the hotel to La Ribera. Larger Dorado to fourty pounds are being taken off the lighthouse to Frailles. Very light fishing pressure for billfish. The Sailfish are very close inshore mixed with the tuna and dorado. The hotel fleet is releasing two or three daily. Both Humboldt Squid and Sardine are plentiful, Dorado and Yellowfin are taking both aggressively. We are looking forward to a wide open October.
Yellowfin- The larger tuna inside are 60 to 70 pounds, outside under the porpise, 100 pounders are common, with fish as large as 200 taken daily. Daily limits for all anglers. Chunked Squid and live Sardine are both being taken. Outside the larger the piece of Squid the bigger the tuna, anglers are using chunks as big as five pounds!
Dorado- Bigger fish this week. There are large schools of medium sized Dorado to 25 from the hotel to La Ribera. Ranch kayakers are catching 15 to 25 pounders off the hotel boat moorings. Further South from the lighthouse to Frailles larger fish to 45 pounds are common. Live sardine and chunked squid are by far the best baits.
Billfish- Virtually no fishing pressure. Sailfish are mixed very close inside with the tuna and dorado. Anglers targeting the tuna and dorado are picking up the occasional Sailfish.
Inshore- The Dorado and Tuna are so close, they almost qualify as inshore species. The Roosters are very active inshore, with very light fishing pressure. Pargo and big Pompano are taking both the Sardine and Squid.

Water- 83-86, flat, clean, blue.
Air- Cooling, highs in the mid 90's. Light afternoon breezes.
Another big tuna week. Yellowfin are biting both inside and offshore this week. At least six different schools of porpise outside are holding tuna to 120#. Inshore, smaller tuna to 50# are consistently taking squid. Dorado are mixed with the tuna from the Lighthouse to Vinaramas, most very close inshore. Big fifty pound Humbolt Squid are right in front of Los Barrilles. All boats are picking up one or two for chum and bait. Very light fishing pressure on the billfish. Sailfish and blues are around, all anglers are going for the tuna. Inshore the water has cleared and the wide open Rooster bite has returned.
Yellowfin- At least six different schools of Porpise from 15 to 40 miles due East, are producing tuna to 120#. The average fish is around 30#. The tuna are biting on literally everything presented. The best bait is chunked Squid. Closer to shore from the Light house to Vinaramas, smaller tuna to 50#, mixed with Dorado are biting consistently. Squid is the best bait.
Dorado- Some big bulls this week. Most of the Dorado are smaller schooling fish from five to thirty pounds. The fish are biting from the Lighthouse to Vinaramas within a mile of the beach. Lots around with most anglers limiting. Chunked Squid working best.
Inshore- The Roosterfishing is back to normal. The water inside has cleared and the Gallos are biting aggresively. The average fish around ten pounds, largest, to fifty. Large Pargo and Pompano are taking Squid. Very good fishing inside.

Water: 83-85 degrees flat, blue, still a little dirty inside.
Air: Very pleasant, cooler than normal, highs in the low 90's.
TUNA TUNA TUNA
It has been all about big Yellowfin this week. All hotel boats are limiting on tuna from 30# to 150#. Five large schools of porpise outside are producing big tuna. The Yellowfin are extremely hungry and taking almost any bait or lure presented. Large Humboldt Squid from 50# to 70# are being jigged off the bottom a couple of hundred yards in front of the hotel. The squid are being chunked for both chum and bait for the tuna. Inshore the Yellowfin and Dorado are spread from the hotel to Pulmo a couple hundred yards to a mile off the beach. Quality Dorado to 40# and tuna to 55# are taking the squid. Very light fishing pressure both inside and for the billfish outside, as most anglers opting for the Yellowfin. There are lots of sailfish in the area. Santos on El Guapo took two blues last week. The water is still a little dirty inside.
Yellowfin- Limits for all anglers. Quality fish averaging 30#'s to 150#'s . Taking all baits, squid has been especially effective. Five large schools of Porpise outside, due East from the hotel from five to fourty miles off. Smaller fish from 15# to 55# are biting inshore from the hotel to Pulmo Park. Wide open!
Dorado- Limits for all anglers targeting. Mixed with the Yellowfin inside. Nice fish to 45#'s. Taking squid, hoochies and sardine.
Billfish- Lots of sailfish around with very light fishing pressure. Some big blues being taken off the bank from La Ribera to Pulmo.
Inshore- Literally all anglers opting to fish further outside. Pargo, Pompano, Cabrilla and Roosters are all biting.

Water- Cooler this week, 82-84, mixed green water inshore, blue clear water 1/2 mile off. Very calm with light winds.
Air- Very pleasant, much cooler than last week. Some afternoon showers. Highs in the low 90's.
The very big hurricane that passed through last week, missed us by over a 100 miles. We got just the right amount of rain with very light winds. A few arroyos opened into the Cortez, creating dirty water and debris close to shore. Overall the storm had very little impact on the East Cape. The weather cooled the water about five degrees and the air temp. a good ten degrees.
All the hotel boats were back in the water fishing by Thursday. The action has been close, with a strong Dorado and Yellowfin bite just 30 minutes South of the hotel off Las Arenas. Free swimming Tuna from ten to fourty pounds are taking Sardine within 1/2 mile of the beach. Dorado from five to thirty pounds are more spread in the same area. All anglers are limiting on the Dorado and most on the Yellowfin. There has been very light pressure on the billfish as most anglers are staying with the Tuna and Dorado. Yesterday two hotel boats went further outside, both releasing two Striped Marlin.
Yellowfin- Small schools of Tuna are very close inshore, off the lighthouse drop off. The bite starts and ends early. The first boats on the Tuna are limiting on Yellowfin from ten to fourty pounds. Almost all are being taken on Sardine.
Dorado- All anglers are limiting. Most of the Dorado are smaller, from five to ten pounds. The largest this week fourty pounds. Anglers releasing are two fish for every keeper. The bite is in the same area as the Tuna, but the fish are more spread out. Hoochies have been effective, most fish taken on live sardine.
Billfish- Very light pressure. Two hotel boats released four yesterday. The Marlin were four to six miles off the hotel South to Pulmo. All the Stripers took darker colored lures.
Inshore- Dirty water this week.

Water- 83-87, flat and blue, heavy tropical winds on and off for the last couple of days.
Air- Clear mornings, afternoon clouds and breezes. Highs in the mid 90's.
Another big week for Yellowfin. A very stationary area between the light house and Pulmo is producing limits of tuna, to 50#'s. Lots of smaller schooling Dorado to 20#'s are also close to shore. Very little pressure on the billfish as most anglers opting for the Tuna. There are quite a few Sails around mixed with a few Stripers and Blues. Inshore really turned back on this week. Big Roosters, mixed with large Pargo, Pompano and Cabrilla, are all biting. Ranch anglers, trolling Marauders and Rapalas, outside Pulmo Park are scoring Wahoo from 20 to 50#'s.
Yellowfin- Last year, for four straight months, free swimming Yellowtail off Punta Colorado to Pulmo produced daily limits for all anglers. A little late this year, but their back. 10 to 50# fish taking mostly live Sardine are producing limits for all anglers.
Dorado- Lots of schools of smaller Dorado to 20#'s are within two miles of the beach, mostly South. Live Sardine best, Hoochies also working.
Billfish- Light pressure. Lots of Sailfish from two to twelve miles off. Almost all the fleet boats are fishing South. A couple of big Blues this week to 300#'s.
Inshore- Wide open! Gallos to 40#'s have been biting aggresively all week. Big Pargo and Pompano mixed with Cabrilla are abundant. Sardine and flys working well.

Water- A little cooler this week, 84-87 degrees. Clear, flat.
Air- Cooler than last week, very pleasant, highs in the low 90's.
The E. Cape is finally getting some decent Yellowfin action. After a very slow start this year, the tuna are biting. Dorado are plentiful both inside and outside. The billfishing has slowed, as most anglers are targeting the Tuna and Mahi Mahi. Inshore fishing has been very consistent with Pargo and Pompano taking baits daily. The Roosters are smaller this week. Bait has been scarcer than normal. Mostly Sardine has been available this week.
Yellowfin- After on of the slowest starts I can recall, the tuna are finally around in quantity. The bite is South from the Light house to Inner Gordo. Tuna averaging 25 # to 40 # are being taken on the dropoff in front of Las Arenas. Larger tuna are under porpoise from 5 to 15 miles off the beach, Frailles south. The largest this week 120#. Most anglers are limiting. Hoochies, Cedar plugs, and live Sardine all working.
Dorado- Smaller schooling Dorado are very close to the beach, mostly South. There are lots of schools of fish in the 5 to 25# range from 100 yards to five miles outside, from Las Arenas south. The schooling fish are taking either live Sardine or bright Hoochies. Outside larger bulls to 50# are being taken on trolled Marlin lures and live small jacks. Very good Dorado fishing, with most anglers limiting.
Billfish- A slower week for billfish. Less pressure as most anglers are targeting the Tuna and Dorado. Sailfish and Blue marlin are being released daily. The Striped Marlin fishing really slowed this week.
Inshore- Very good fishing for Pompano in particular, with quite a few Pargo mixed in. Big Pompano to 10# are abundant. The Roosterfishing was slower this week, with smaller Gallos taking mostly Sardine.

Excellent fishing conditions all week. Calm flat seas 86 degree water. The breezes have been calmer with slightly cooler days in the low 90's
Typical summer fishing with good quality fish all week.
The bait situation, while not perfect is improving. The sardines a re bigger and more plentiful.Macks, caballito and dead ballyhoo all available.
BILLFISH
A good mixture all week. Nick Rizopoulos of Houston released a Black Marlin of about 250. Blues, stripes and Sails all biting freely. Dead Ballyhoo probably producing the best results.
DORADO
Tons of smaller fish schooling around the light house, some bigger fish mixed in but tough to hook with all the frenzy. The big bulls stil being taken on the troll out with the marlin.
TUNA
The fleet ran into porpoise 10 miles off the light house yesterday and hooked some good fish. Biggest brought to the scale was 120#. A few free swimmers were taken around the light house mostly by anglers fishing for other species.
WAHOO
Two boats brought in wahoo yesterday. Fish were found 5 miles off Cabo Pulmo. This time of year its always a good to target wahoo for part of the day. Good to see that effort pay off.
INSHORE
Tom Powell adn captain Santos on the "El Guapo" have been working the reefs and busting the usual culprits, Pargo,Grouper/Cabrilla, Pompane etc. The Hobe Kayakers did real well with Dorado,Tuna 40#, Pargo etc
All round good week with low fishing pressure and good quality fish

We are experiencing typical summer conditions, hot, hot, hot!!. However mid day breezes have been brisk enough to cool things down. Big storms building up everyday in the mountains. Still no signs of hurricanes.
Good fishing all week with bait not plentiful. Green macks, sardines and caballitos all in the mix as well as dead ballyhoo.
Water temps are around 86 degrees on the surface
Air at mid 90's
Bill fishing:
Good blue marlin bite , fish hitting a fair split of lures and ballyhoo. One panga boated 2 blues to about 250# and lost a biggie on the same day. Stripers are plentiful also taking most baits. Sailfish are probably the most plentiful right now mostly hitting smaller jigs in the pattern.
Dorado:
Some very nice big bulls taken on the troll everyday. Schoolies bunched around the light house close inshore. The schoolies aggressive on the sardines.
Tuna;
Some excellent tuna this week. One boat lost a 180 class fish and a 92 pounder was brought in to the scale. As has been the story all year, the bite is inconsistent. The big fish disappeared for a few days. Some big fish to 140 caught Sunday to the north off Ceralvo Island. Smaller fish were taken under porpoise about 30 miles out .
Inshore;
Quite a lot of action on the bottom. Big barred Pargo around the Light House taking chunk bait. Of La Ribera dropping iron produced some Huatchinango and amberjacks. Rooster fishing has been quiet this week with mostly medium sized fish. Fly fishermen catching a lot of smaller fish up in the shallow water of all the bays.

Water- 81-89 Very warm, clear, ESE afternoon breezes.
Air- Summer weather, temps in the high 90's.
Warmer than normal water. The Cortez is a good five degrees warmer than last year at this time. Lots of billfish this week, Striped Marlin and Sailfish, mixed with a few Blue Marlin. Schools of Yellowfin are being taken North around Cerralvo and South of Frailles. Smaller schooling Dorado have been very consistent inside, with some nice bulls taken outside. Inshore has been a little slower this week.
Billfish- Striped Marlin and Sail fish are abundant. Last week there were more Sails than Stripers, this week more Stripers were released. They are very spread, with most taken South and five to ten miles off the beach. Blue Marlin were not as plentiful as last week. After three days of fishing the E Cape Bisbee, fifty boat entrants caught only two over three hundred pounds, a 310# and a 347#.
Dorado- Anglers are limiting on Dorado in the 5 to 20# range. Hoochies and live Sardine working best. Literally any floating debris holding schools. Outside, larger bulls to 50#, are taking Marlin lures and slow trolled live bait. I caught a 44.8# and a 37.5# on slowed trolled Caballito, fishing the Bisbee.
Yellowfin- One 110 #'er was weighed in at the Bisbee. Most of the tuna are footballs. Large schools both North and South under porpise, taking mostly bright hoochies.
Inshore- Slower this week. A few Roosters, and lots of Pompano and Jack Crevalle.

A big week for Blue marlin. With the East Cape Bisbee starting this coming Wednesday, the timing couldn't be better. Big Dorado to sixty pounds are being taken daily. Smaller Yellowfin and schooling Dorado are plentiful north of Punta Pescadero. The incredible inshore fishing continues with Roosterfish, Pompano and Pargo all biting aggresively.
Billfish- There are more Blues around than I can ever recall. I personally released three this week, from 100 to 400#'s. There are lots of Sail fish mixed with a few stripers. Anglers targeting billfish are releasing one or two per day. Anglers are taking a short boat ride, the fishing are from five to fifteen miles directly off the hotel and South. Most of the billfish are blindstriking lures and Ballyhoo.
Dorado- Big bulls on live bait and Marlin lures are being taken both North and south. Lots in th fifty pound range. Trolled Ballyhoo has been the most effective bait this week. Big schools of smaller 5 to 20 pounders mixed with small Yellowfin are close inshore around Muertos bay, and off the shark buoys. Live Sardine and Hoochies both working. A ranch flyfisherman took a 56 pounder this week. The photos are in the websites photo gallery.
Yellowfin- A couple of hundred pound tuna were taken this week, close inside under Porpoise. Most of the Yellowfin are football sized and being taken North under Porpoise and off the shark buoys from Muertos to Ceralvo Island. Live sardine are the only bait they are taking.
Inshore- Wide open fishing! Lots of Roosterfish, with some real gorrillas to sixty pounds. Big Pompano and Pargo. This year the area has had unlimited Sardine really helping the bite inside.

Water- Very warm ..83-87. Clear, flat, occasional afternoon SE breezes.
Air- Warmer, highs in the mid 90's.
Good, consistent fishing this week. Schools of Porpoise both North and South are holding lots of smaller tuna to forty pounds. The Dorado are schooling closer to shore with fish from five to thirty pounds taken inside and big bulls taking lures outside. Striped marlin and Sailfish are spread both North and south, lots around, but line shy. Inshore is wide open. Big Roosters, Pargo, Amberjack, and Pompano are all consistently biting. The water temperature has jumped five degrees this week. Everywhere in Palmas bay there is more bait than usual.
Yellowfin- Lots of tuna both inside and outside. The buoys from Muertos Bay to Ventanas are holding Yellowfin to twenty pounds. Inside, south of Frailles is also holding larger solitary tuna to fifty. Outside both North and South as far as 40 miles off, schools of Porpoise are holding lots of smaller to medium sized fish. Hoochies and live Sardine working. Most anglers limiting.
Dorado- Large schools of smaller to medium sized Mahi Mahi are feeding around almost all floating debris from off the beach to five miles offshore, both north and south. Most anglers limiting, live Sardine and Hoochies working best. Larger bulls to fifty are being taken on trolled marlin lures.
Billfish- Lots of tailers and jumpers, but again this week very picky biters. The Striped Marlin and Sailfish are mixed half and half. The billfishing was best North from Pescadero to Cerralvo. Most are taking lures, reds and squid colors working best.
Inshore- Another big Roosterfish week! All E. Cape anglers targeting Gallos are having some phenomenal fishing! Nice pargo to 25 pounds and lots of Pompano to 15 pounds. Jack Crevalle are thick providing non stop inshore action.

Water- 75-81, warming, blue outside, afternoon Southeast breezes.
Air- Pleasant, highs in the low 90's.
Very good consistent fishing this week. The tuna fishing has really improved, lots of small to medium sized Yellowfin are being taken daily. The Dorado are also plentiful, not as big as last week, but there are lots more around. Sailfish mixed with Striped Marlin are very spread both North and South. Inshore is still wide open with very light pressure as most anglers are fishing outside. The water cooled dramatically after tropical storm Andres passed last week, the temperature dropped from 83 to 73 in one day. It is rapidly warming back up with 80 degree water today.
Yellowfin- Limits for most anglers. Tuna from five to fourty pounds are abundant under schools of porpise both north and south. The buoys north of Pescadero to Ventanas are also producing smaller tuna. Hoochies and live Sardine are working best in the schools of Porpise, live sardine exclusively on the buoys. Ranch anglers lost a couple of big tuna in the 100 to 200 pound range at the boat.
Dorado- Lots of Dorado both inside and outside this week. The larger fish in the 40 to 50 pound range are taking Marlin lures and live bait outside. Smaller schooling Dorado in the five to 30 pound range are abundant and very close inshore. Hoochies and live Sardine are doing the trick inside. Limits for most anglers.
Billfish- Sailfish and Striped Marlin are mixed about half and half. The fish are mostly north in the warmer water. Picky biters but there are lots around. Anglers targeting billfish are picking up at least one per day. Most are being taken on trolled lures, reds and Squid colors are working best.
Inshore- Big Roosters, Pargo and Pompano are making for one of the best inshore fishing years on record. There are large schools of bait on most bay beachs. The bait is holding some big Roosters to sixty pounds. The Pompano are concentrated off the lighthouse and taking live sardine consistently.
Angler of the Week

29 Dorado to 40 pounds
9 Yellowfin to 30 pounds
