Rancho Leonero Resort
Welcome Letter

Welcome to Rancho Leonero. We hope you have a wonderful time and catch lots of fish. Here are a few things you should know about the ranch to help you better enjoy your stay:

Breakfast is served from about 6:30 to 9:00. For those of you wanting an earlier start, we usually have fruit and cereal available by 6:00. If you have special dietary requirements, please inform our courteous staff, and we'll do our best to accommodate you. For those of you not fishing, lunch is served from about 12:00 to 1:30. Dinner is served from about 7:00 to 8:30 on our patio overlooking the sparkling Sea of Cortez. Upon request, we will prepare afternoon snacks.

For your comfort all our rooms are air-conditioned, and we ask that you turn the unit off during the day if you are on a fishing or dive charter. If there is any problem with your room (such as no hot water or insufficient towels), please inform our staff and we'll correct it immediately. Also, note that our utility services may not be as reliable as you may be used to. If a power outage occurs, please consider it part of your Baja adventure, and note that we are doing our best to get back on-line (we have a back-up generator just in case).

Paco helps with fishing and diving arrangementsPlease make your fishing or diving arrangements at the front desk (normally at dinnertime - see Paco). We have a wide variety of boats and prices for you to chose from. You will be asked for the type of boat you want, as well as the type of lunch (American sandwiches or Mexican burritos), beverages (nominal charge for beer, soft drinks, bottled water), and if you will be needing any of our high-quality rental tackle. Boats will be ready to depart from our beach starting at about 7:00 in the morning. Please note that under Mexican fishing regulations, all passengers on any boat carrying fishing equipment (including non-fishermen) must be in possession of a valid Mexican fishing permit, which are available at the front desk. You might also want to visit our tackle shop for those lures you might not have. Live bait (at an additional charge) is usually available from a bait boat parked in front of the hotel when you depart. Please try to carry small bills, as they usually don't have change. You might also remember it is appropriate to tip your boat captain and the fish cleaning crew.

catch and release marlin and roosterfishRancho Leonero is a firm supporter of the catch and release movement, and we ask that you release any healthy fish (especially billfish and roosterfish) that you don't plan on eating. Please ask about daily limits as well as the general limit on the amount of fish you can take back with you. We have fish mounting services available (which only require measurements and optional photos of the fish, so you don't have to kill a fish to get that trophy wall mount). Unless you ask to return earlier, fishing charters generally return around 3pm. Filleting and freezing of your catch is included, and we ask that if you wish to take fish home with you, please accompany your fish to our filleting station to make sure your fish is properly bagged and marked. If you didn't bring freezer bags, we have them available at our store. Should you desire, your catch can be prepared any way you like by our kitchen staff. Please give the fish to one of our waiters along with clear instructions.

Your stay won't be complete without snorkeling at our famous double reef, located right in front of the hotel. In addition, we offer rental kayaks which are a great way to fish the reef, exercise or just have fun. Snorkel sets and kayaks may be checked out at the rental counter, and life vests are available. Please note these activities pose inherent risks, so make sure you have the necessary skills and fitness to properly enjoy these aquatic sports. For those of you interested in scuba, we have a number of different dive excursions available, including those to the famous Cabo Pulmo reef. Introductory and dive certification courses are also available. Ask at the desk about our other activities, such as horseback riding, back country trips, and shopping excursions to Cabo and La Paz. For souvenirs, please visit our gift shop, located next to the front desk.

Please enjoy your stay. If you have any problems which our staff doesn't promptly resolve, ask to see one of us personally, and we'll do our best to make it right. Thanks again for choosing Rancho Leonero for your Baja vacation.

The Management & Staff

P.S. - Don't forget to get your complementary welcome cocktail at our bar.
